Home means nevada

I was born and raised at the base of the Sierra Nevadas, where desert and mountains dance. Being encouraged to explore and navigate the world around me, I fell in love with a practice of awareness: Yoga. This Blog is a way to merge all the components of my exploration of life. Filled with mountains, warm sustenance, arriving winters, community, local food, lush springs, mysteries, deep & joyful laughter, bike rides and new cameras.

Om mani padmi hum: is something that has been whispered into my consciousness since before I could remember. It means the jewel of the lotus lies within. And is repeated in Tibet, over and over and over; protecting their thoughts and  securing their well being. It helps to remind me in every moment, that all I need dwells  within. That in this beautiful existence I am everything I need. Exploring the scared balance of this sense of outward connectivity to the wilderness, and inward inquiry of contentment. That is the mantra of my life.

Simple Inspiration, this quote never ceased to give me goosebumbs, from the first time I heard it, in a beautiful yoga class, to now when I see it, sitting behind a computer:

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”
